INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING IN CALGARY
Make sense of where you are. Find a way forward.
At Parable Counselling, Dawson Diment provides individual counselling in Calgary and online across Alberta for adults looking for more than a place to simply talk. Counselling is collaborative, practical, and deeply human—making room for your story while helping you build meaningful change.
You don't need to have it all figured out before coming to counselling.
People begin counselling for all kinds of reasons.
Sometimes there is an obvious problem: a relationship is struggling, anxiety is taking over, motivation has disappeared, or life has changed in a way you weren't prepared for.
Other times, it's harder to name.
You don't need a diagnosis, a crisis, or a perfectly articulated goal to begin counselling. Sometimes the starting point is simply recognizing that you don't want to keep doing things the same way.
You might find yourself thinking:
Why do I keep ending up here?
Why can't I get out of my own head?
Why do I feel stuck when my life looks fine from the outside?
Why do I keep reacting this way?
What am I actually doing with my life?
Why can't I just move on?
What can individual counselling help with?
Individual counselling at Parable may be a good fit if you're experiencing:
Anxiety, worry, or overthinking
Depression, low mood, or feeling stuck
Stress, burnout, or overwhelm
Difficult life transitions
Relationship or communication difficulties
Shame, self-criticism, or low self-worth
Anger or emotional reactivity
Grief and loss
Questions of identity, direction, or purpose
Difficult patterns that keep repeating
Faith or spiritual concerns
These experiences rarely fit neatly into boxes. Counselling gives us room to understand the whole picture.
A Different Kind of Conversation
Good counselling is more than having someone listen.
It's also more than being handed strategies and told what to do.
At Parable, counselling begins with the belief that your struggles make sense within the context of your experiences, relationships, values, and story. Together, we'll become curious about the patterns that have shaped where you are today while identifying what might help you move differently going forward.
That means there will be room to talk—but we won't necessarily stop there.
At times, I may ask a difficult question, point out a pattern I'm noticing, help you experiment with a different way of responding, or slow us down to pay attention to something important happening in the room.
The goal isn't to become a different person.
It's to develop greater freedom in how you respond to the thoughts, emotions, relationships, and circumstances already present in your life.
What counselling with Dawson looks like
I'm Dawson Diment, the counsellor behind Parable Counselling.
My approach is warm, collaborative, curious, and active. I want counselling to be a place where you feel genuinely understood, but I also believe good therapy should help us go somewhere.
Rather than applying the same formula to every person, I draw primarily from evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
In practice, that might mean learning how to respond differently to difficult thoughts, becoming more willing to experience uncomfortable emotions without allowing them to run your life, identifying patterns that keep you stuck, clarifying what actually matters to you, or translating insight into concrete changes outside the counselling room.
We'll also regularly check in on how counselling is going. Your feedback matters, and when something isn't helping, I want us to know so we can adjust.
Your Story Matters. So Does Where It's Going.
The name Parable is intentional.
A parable takes the ordinary experiences of life and invites us to see something deeper within them.
I think counselling can do something similar.
Your story includes experiences you chose and experiences you didn't. There may be chapters marked by loss, mistakes, disappointment, relationships, uncertainty, or things you wish had gone differently.
Counselling isn't about pretending those chapters didn't happen.
It's about becoming more able to understand your story without being trapped by it—and deciding how you want to participate in what comes next.
Faith can have a place here. It doesn't have to.
Parable Counselling welcomes clients from all backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences.
For clients who desire it, counselling can thoughtfully incorporate questions of Christian faith, spirituality, meaning, vocation, forgiveness, suffering, and identity alongside evidence-based psychological care.
For clients who don't want faith incorporated into counselling, it won't be.
You don't need to share my worldview to be respected, understood, or welcomed here.
