FEES & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Clear answers before you begin.
Starting counselling can already involve enough uncertainty. You shouldn’t also have to wonder what a session costs, how counselling works, or what you’re committing to.
Individual Counselling
50-minute session — $120
Individual counselling offers space to slow down, understand what may be happening beneath the surface, and begin responding to life with greater freedom and intention.
Sessions may focus on concerns such as anxiety, overthinking, depression, relationships, addiction, life transitions, identity, faith, or simply feeling stuck.
Couples Counselling
50-minute session — $140
Couples counselling provides a structured space to understand the patterns that have developed between you, communicate more openly, and begin rebuilding connection.
Longer sessions may be helpful for couples because they allow more time to explore relational patterns without feeling rushed.
Online Counselling
50-minute session — $120
Online counselling is available to clients located in Alberta.
Fees are the same as in-person counselling.
Secure video sessions can provide many of the same benefits as meeting in person while making counselling easier to fit around work, parenting, travel, or life outside Calgary.
A Note About the Cost of Counselling
Counselling is both a financial and personal investment, and I don’t take that lightly.
My goal is not to keep people in counselling indefinitely. The aim is to use our time intentionally—to understand what is keeping you stuck, develop meaningful tools and insight, and help you move toward greater freedom in your life and relationships.
Some people come for a relatively focused season of counselling. Others find that deeper or more longstanding concerns benefit from longer-term work.
We can regularly talk about how counselling is going, whether it continues to feel useful, and what makes sense moving forward.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
I have completed the requirements for my counselling degree and have applied for the Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation. My application is currently being processed, and I have not yet been formally granted the CCC credential.
Because many extended health benefit plans require a counsellor to hold the CCC designation before sessions are eligible for reimbursement, sessions with me may not currently be covered by your insurance plan.
While I am awaiting my CCC designation, I offer counselling at a reduced session rate to reflect this limitation.
Once my CCC credential has been formally granted, clients whose benefit plans cover Canadian Certified Counsellors may be able to submit receipts for reimbursement, depending on the terms of their individual plan.
Parable Counselling does not directly bill insurance providers. Receipts are provided following each session for clients who are eligible to submit them.
-
The relationship you have with your counsellor matters.
Beyond credentials or therapeutic approaches, counselling tends to work best when you feel safe enough to be honest, understood without being placated, and appropriately challenged when something important needs attention.
Parable may be a good fit if you are looking for counselling that is:
warm and genuinely human
evidence-informed without feeling clinical or mechanical
curious about the deeper patterns beneath your struggles
willing to engage difficult conversations honestly
interested not only in symptom relief, but in the kind of life and relationships you want to build
You do not need to know with certainty before reaching out. An initial consultation can simply be a chance to see whether working together feels like a good fit.
-
The first session is primarily about orienting you to the counselling process, reviewing informed consent, and understanding your story and what has brought you to counselling.
We may talk about what has been difficult lately, important experiences from your past, what you have already tried, the relationships or circumstances surrounding the concern, and what you hope might be different.
You do not need to arrive with your thoughts perfectly organized.
Part of the work is making sense of things together.
By the end of the first few sessions, we will usually have a clearer picture of what we are working toward and how counselling may help.
-
Most people begin with weekly or biweekly sessions.
Meeting somewhat regularly at the beginning tends to help create momentum and allows us to understand patterns more clearly. As things begin to change, sessions can often become less frequent.
There is no requirement to attend counselling indefinitely, and frequency can be adjusted depending on your goals, availability, financial circumstances, and progress.
-
There is no universal timeline.
Some concerns respond well to relatively brief counselling, while longstanding relational patterns, trauma, addiction, grief, or deeper identity concerns may require more time.
Rather than deciding on an arbitrary number of sessions at the beginning, we can regularly evaluate whether counselling is helping and whether the work continues to feel worthwhile.
The goal is meaningful progress—not accumulating appointments.
-
My work is primarily informed by evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Emotionally Focused approaches to relationships.
But counselling at Parable is not about forcing every person into a particular therapeutic model.
Different people need different things at different moments.
Sometimes that means learning practical skills for anxiety or emotional regulation. Sometimes it means noticing patterns that have quietly shaped your life for years. Sometimes it means grieving something that cannot simply be “fixed.”
Therapy provides a framework. The person sitting across from me remains more important than the framework.
-
Parable Counselling is able to thoughtfully integrate Christian or Catholic faith into counselling when that is something a client wants.
Faith does not need to be part of counselling, however.
Clients from different religious traditions—or no religious background at all—are welcome. Your beliefs will never be imposed upon you.
For clients who do want to integrate faith, counselling can provide space to explore questions involving meaning, prayer, identity, relationships, suffering, vocation, shame, doubt, or one's relationship with God alongside evidence-based psychological care.

Appointments require 24 hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling.
Appointments cancelled with less than the required notice—or missed without notice—may be charged the full session fee except in circumstances where the cancellation policy is waived.
The purpose of the policy is not punitive. Reserved appointment times are held specifically for each client and are often difficult to refill at short notice.
